The online course illustrates how twelve common trauma informed practice elements can be used in intervention with children, adolescents and families who have experienced trauma. Each practice elements used in case intervention demonstrates one exercise or strategy for how that practice element can be employed.

We were fortunate to have three cases discussants – all experienced trauma treatment therapists – who, following the presentation of a video of the practice element in treatment, then discuss how the practice elements can be used differently with different aged children or adolescent. In the discussion of each practice element, they also identify other aspects of the practice element that may not be illustrated in the case vignette.

For example, in the case of Emma Grace and the Brennan family, the case vignette illustrates how assessment findings can be communicated in a client-friendly fashion. The discussants highlight other aspects of trauma assessment, including the importance of screening for history as well as symptoms, the importance of using standardized screening and assessment instruments, and of paying attention to co-occurring disorders.

The three case discussants are Eboni Jones, LCSW; Leila Keen, LCSW; and Alba Prados. LPC. A short biography for each is included in the sidebar.
