Summer Institute-Objectives
Faculty attend a 3-day summer institute at the University of North Carolina School of Social Work to be oriented to the course Core Components and Skills for Trauma-Informed Practice and trained in PBL. Faculty learn how to facilitate the sharing of multiple perspectives in the small group setting. Sharing perspectives about a case in a group setting makes it easier to identify important material, integrate multiple representations of a problem, and combine different fields of knowledge together. Faculty also practice the facilitation of professional communication. Talking through a case allows one to practice the skills of sharing relevant information in ways that other professionals can understand and using professional language to discuss trauma-informed care. Faculty will learn how their modeling demonstrates the manner in which an expert might reason through a case, how their guidance allows students to focus more on case content, and how their feedback supports students in developing an understanding of the case.
